12 Days of Giving 2012 - Day 11
04 Jan 13
On the eleventh day of Christmas my true love gave to me… tutorials using the Ashmolean Museum's collections.
Thanks to a grant of $1.1 million from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Ashmolean Museum has expanded the role of the Museum's collections in University teaching. The Programme has enhanced the existing use of Museum objects in traditional subject areas such as history, archaeology, languages and literature, as well as developing ways for object-based learning to take place in non-traditional subjects such as medicine, law, business and the sciences.
Students have the chance to come into direct contact with the collections, engage with objects and develop their skills of observation and questioning.
As part of the Programme, three Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Fellowship Teaching Curators have been appointed.
