A grant of US$ 1.75 million has been awarded to New College by the Leon Levy Foundation to endow a Tutorial Fellowship in Classical Philosophy. The post will honour the late Lord (Anthony) Quinton, Fellow and Tutor in Philosophy at New College from 1955 to 1978 and President of Trinity College from 1978 to 1987.
“The College is delighted to be able to honour Tony Quinton, who was such an exceptional scholar, teacher and friend to the College over many years. We are most grateful to the Leon Levy Foundation for their generosity in making this possible, and for helping secure such an important academic post within the College,” said Sir Curtis Price, Warden of New College.
Shelby White, Founding Trustee of the Leon Levy Foundation said, “Tony Quinton was a unique and important thinker in the realm of moral philosophy. We are delighted to honor his memory with this fellowship at a university that meant so much to him.”
The Leon Levy Foundation, founded in 2004, is a private, not-for-profit foundation created from the estate of Leon Levy, an investor with a longstanding commitment to philanthropy. The Foundation’s overarching goal is to support scholarship at the highest level, ultimately advancing knowledge and improving the lives of individuals and society at large.
