Indoor Tennis Centre

My tennis roots are in Oxford and I am delighted to support this exciting project that will benefit the next generation of local talent

Tim Henman, patron of the Tennis Centre Campaign

Tennis has been a feature at Oxford since the early development of the sport. Our current venue at Iffley Road consists of four poor quality hard courts and six imperfect grass courts, and we have no indoor courts at all. Oxford is the only UK university with a team in the BUCS Premiership that does not have regular access to indoor courts within its locality, which is hampering the development of the sport within the University.

A new centre would enable our players to have more court time, as well as enhance our ability to attract applications to Oxford from those already excelling in the sport. It is the future growth of the game in the wider city, county and region that is our key motivator, particularly in the post London 2012 era.

We are excited to have secured planning permission for three indoor courts and six outdoor courts in such a prime location close to the heart of Oxford. The centre will be of a high quality specification built with longevity, practicality and aesthetic appeal in mind. The indoor courts will be housed in a spectacular building, featuring a dramatic contoured roof, which balances the demands of local residents while providing a first-class playing environment. Combined with the six outdoor courts, this will enable year round playing opportunities and provide an inspirational backdrop to athletic activity on the running track and elsewhere on site. The centre will also feature changing facilities, a club room and galleries for spectating.
