Undergraduate support
Part of the national debate
The University coordinates a wide range of access activities and school visits, which aim to raise educational aspirations and accomplishments. However, such activities can only succeed if students from lower-income backgrounds are reassured that upon arriving at Oxford, they are fully supported by robust Bursary schemes. In light of the recent Browne review and the government’s policy on increasing tuition fees, the University is ever more reliant upon philanthropy if the dreams and aspirations of talented individuals are to be realised. We cannot betray these gifted students by failing to offer them funding opportunities at the point of admission.
Never has this issue been more important than in today’s changing fees environment. Help us to ensure that once students are accepted by the University, they receive the support they need to flourish. We believe that no student should be deterred from applying to Oxford for financial reasons, and we aim to expand our bursary and scholarship programmes to assist students from lower-income backgrounds.
For students from lower-income households in the UK and EU, £7,500 per annum would provide a student with a maintenance bursary and essential contribution towards tuition fees. However, all gifts, of whatever size, are vital - even the smallest donation can be amalgamated to create a full Bursary.
Step forward with us to create life-changing opportunities for talented individuals.
Meet our undergraduate students
An international student body
A significant minority of undergraduate students at Oxford come from overseas, and we are keen to ensure that, in the long term, financial aid exists to ensure that all students can benefit from our support, with no economic or geographic barriers standing in their way. This is an ambitious aim, but one which fits clearly and strongly with Oxford’s past, present, and future mission, and its place in the world as a leading provider of undergraduate education.
On average, it costs £35,000 per annum to fund an undergraduate student from outside of the UK/EU. The University is seeking to increase its scholarship provision to enable students to take up their place at Oxford, irrespective of background or nationality, with the security of a fully funded scholarship. But all gifts, of whatever size, are vital, as even the smallest donation can be amalgamated to create a full scholarship.
Step forward with us and help make a better world.
