Supporting undergraduate field study in Biology

Fieldwork is a vital part of an Oxford Biology education, giving students hands-on experience in ecology, animal behaviour, conservation, and other key disciplines. Through field courses in the UK and overseas, students develop practical skills, confidence and a deeper understanding of the natural world.

These experiences are often among the most memorable and transformative parts of a student's degree. They work alongside leading researchers, contribute to active projects and gain the skills needed to tackle global environmental challenges.

However, the costs of travel, accommodation, and equipment can prevent students from taking part. The Field Trip Fund helps ensure that every student can access these opportunities, regardless of financial circumstances.

Supporting fieldwork in Borneo

For donors considering a larger gift, there is a unique opportunity to help secure the future of our Tropical Forest Ecology field course in Borneo.

Each year, the course enables Oxford undergraduates and fully funded local students from Indonesia and Malaysia to gain first-hand experience of one of the world's most important and biodiverse ecosystems.

The programme costs approximately £45,000 a year to deliver. While it currently benefits from generous bridge funding, long-term philanthropic support is needed to sustain student bursaries and secure its future.
