The Bodleian Libraries of the University of Oxford form the largest university library system in the United Kingdom. They include the principal University library — the Bodleian Library — which has been a library of legal deposit for 400 years; major research libraries; and libraries attached to faculties, departments and other institutions of the University. The combined library collections number more than 12 million printed items, in addition to 30,000 e-journals, and vast quantities of materials in other formats.

These great intellectual and historical riches are not only reserved for the students and academics of the University. The Libraries' doors are open to thousands of visiting researchers every year and its website enables instant access to many of its collections for anyone, anywhere in the world, at any time. A busy, expanding programme of acclaimed exhibitions and cultural events ensures the Bodleian’s rich treasures are as accessible as possible to members of the public.
