The Oxford Chemistry degree is a unique 4 year programme, where the students chose from the wide range of research opportunities for an entirely research-based final year– a continual resource for strengthening the chemistry research capacity in the UK. The department has produced four Nobel laureates, and 15 current or emeritus members are Fellows of the Royal Society. Chemistry has played a key role in shaping the modern world: advances ranging from the microchip and LCD displays to antibiotics and DNA technology have all relied, to some extent, on developments and discoveries in chemistry. In areas from molecular medicine to the development of new superconductors, chemistry has the potential to revolutionise our lives in the future. New Chemistry Teaching Laboratory - The 1916 Centenary Campaign. Please join us as we build a new undergraduate teaching laboratory for the 21st Century. Every gift is greatly appreciated and will help to acquire specialist instruments to equip the new state-of-the-art analytical suite, including multinuclear NMR, X-ray diffraction, and advanced spectroscopy and mass spectrometry facilities. It will also provide benchtop NMR, IR, and UV-vis spectrometers for routine sample analysis within the synthetic labs, as well as high-specification fume hoods and chemical synthesis equipment. The new laboratory will bring together practical teaching in organic, inorganic and physical chemistry for the first time, enabling cutting-edge new interdisciplinary experiments that mirror the collaborative nature of our research programmes. It will equip our students with the practical skills and problem-solving abilities they need and enable our experiments to illustrate the modern and real-world applications of chemistry. You can find out more about the new teaching laboratory here. Dedicate a Fume Hood To mark the centenary of the Dyson Perrins Laboratory, we invite you create your own lasting legacy by dedicating one of the bespoke fume hoods in the new teaching laboratories. You can dedicate your fume hood with a gift of £1,916. Perhaps your dedication will be a tribute to your time in the laboratories, or in memory of someone who inspired your learning, or maybe some words of wisdom for future students. Please provide contact details when you make your donation so that we can contact you to take down your dedication. The 1916 Centenary Campaign The 1916 Centenary Campaign.
